Over the course of the year, I plan to study the best methods for creating more ethical and sustainable ways of fashion. I will focus on the best sustainable materials, ways to reduce environmental effects from production, and how to manage a fashion business in the most ethical ways. I chose this because it is what I will be attending college for next year and I hope to make a future out of it. My future goal is to open my own small clothing business that meets all of my ethical/sustainable needs. I’m interested in these topics because I’ve always been someone who is passionate about saving our planet. I also have recently become interested in fashion. Shopping - specifically thrifting - is one of my favorite activities and I would love to turn a hobby I have into something much bigger.
I hope to learn a lot more about this topic over the next few months. I plan to gain background knowledge in order to have a better understanding of what I will be studying in college. I feel this will be overall beneficial for my future and will help me decide for certain that this is what I want to do. This inquiry aligns with many of the portrait of a learner competencies. The most obvious ones seem to be solution seekers and inspired innovators. Solution seekers work to fix a problem or answer a question. They learn from outside sources to come up with a solution and take time to comprehend the information in order to best come up with a way to fix a problem. This is exactly what I will be doing for this project. The problem is the lack of sustainability in the fashion industry, and I will be working to find a solution to this. Inspired innovators learn from their mistakes, take criticism, come up with creative solutions, and are flexible with the work they’re doing. Since I am starting this project with only a little knowledge on the topic, I plan to think like an inspired innovator during the process in order to have a successful outcome. As of now, I am not sure of any specific places I can reach out to. Some ideas I have though are clothing drives, small sustainable businesses, thrift stores, etc. I do not want to start off this project with a super detailed timeline or plan. I do believe that there will be changes in a lot of things throughout the year and it is hard to plan it all set in stone so early. A rough timeline would be as following: October - Introduction research & planning (research all the background info) November - Continue researching - more in depth (research the best ways to fix already prevalent problems) December - Reach out to outside sources & more research (research how ro prevent more issues from occurring in the future) January - Even more research (now on the things that will relate more directly to me and my future in this industry) February - Finalize any plans I have for a project March until the due date - Create my final project I plan to update my website as frequently as possible to share my information with others. I would also like to add more to this project besides the website and make something creative to display the information I learn during this process. |
